CIVIL SOCIETY 4.0 – Shaping Artificial Intelligence in a Social, Sustainable and Participatory Way
Artificial intelligence (AI) has long since become part of our everyday lives. It has an enormous impact not only on science and business, but also on our society. At the same time, the idea of "AI for the common good“ has seldom been at the centre of discussions about the potential of AI-based technologies. AI for the common good focuses on the social design of technology and the associated effects and opportunities for our entire society.
With our anthology "Civil Society 4.0 - Shaping Artificial Intelligence in a Social, Sustainable and Participatory Way", we want to further establish the discussion and exchange on AI applications for the common good. We asked whether the term Civil Society 4.0, in analogy to the terms Industry 4.0 and Work 4.0, is suitable to describe the change process in our society in the digital age. To answer this question, we asked experts from different fields for their perspectives.
The contributors provided food for thought on how AI can be shaped in a social, sustainable and participatory way. This advances the discussion on the framework needed for the development and use of AI for the common good.
